An Egyptian court has granted bail to the jailed Al Jazeera journalists Baher Mohamed and Mohamed Fahmy, who are being re-tried on charges of aiding the banned Muslim Brotherhood.
The decision came nearly a fortnight after their Australian colleague, Peter Greste, was deported.
The bail order means Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed have been allowed to walk free for the first time in 14 months. They were arrested in December 2013 on trumped-up charges of helping terrorists and spreading false news.
Greste tweeted his congratulations to his soon-to-be-released colleagues. This is a huge step forward. Not time to declare it over, but at least you get to go home!
The next hearing in their retrial is set for 23 February.
