Directed by Sherief Elkatsha, who also played a role in co-producing the movie, Far from the Nile embarks on a captivating journey. The film follows 12 African musicians hailing from seven different countries along the Nile River. They come together in an international coalition with the shared mission of shedding light on the water conflict that plagues the river.
Leaving their homes in Burundi, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda, the musicians embark on a 100-day tour through the heartland of America. Throughout the journey, the film captures the challenges of collaboration across diverse cultural backgrounds.
Despite the vast cultural differences, distinct musical styles, and competing egos, the artists are compelled to find ways to create and stay united in their shared cause.
This three-time-award-winning film initially made its debut at the 2022 Cairo International Film Festival’s Horizons of Arab Cinema, where it claimed the Best Non-Fiction Film Award. Subsequently, it earned the Silver Award in the Feature-Length Category at the 12th Luxor African Film Festival and the Exceptional Merit at the Doctors Without Borders International Film Festival.
Sherief Elkatsha, who was born in the US and raised in Cairo, now divides his time between Cairo and New York.
