After a three-month closure in the Egyptian film industry owing to the Covid-19 outbreak, New Century, Misr International Films and Synergy Films have released the trailer for El Ghassala (Arabic for washing machine), marking the first trailer in Egyptian cinema since the lockdown.
Headlined by stars Mahmoud Hemeida, Ahmed Hatem and Hannah El Zahed along with Mohamed Sallam, Bayoumi Fouad, Ahmed Fathy and Taher Abou Leila, the film guest stars Mohamed Tharwat, Mahmoud El Leithy and Ali El Tayeb and features a cameo appearance from superstar Sherin Reda.
The trailer showcases an avant-garde kind of a washing machine that functions as a time machine, which evokes several complications. The new film is written by Adel Salib and directed by Essam Abdel Hamid.
El Ghassala revolves around Omar who uses the washing machine to get rid of the obstacles that drive a wedge between him and his lover.
The film marks the second cooperation between Ahmed Hatem and Hannah El Zahed, after the success of their last film Love Story which was released on Valentine’s Day in 2019.
Produced by New Century Production, Misr International Films (MIF), and Synergy Films, El Ghassala is distributed locally by Dollar Film, and internationally by N Star, while MAD Solutions handles the film’s marketing. The film is set to be released later this year.
