Egypt’s Media Production City has partnered with Moskino Film City, affiliated with the Moscow Government, to develop film production, exchange expertise, and establish a joint strategy to support Moscow as a creative city, reported Egypt Today. The agreement aims to position Cairo and Moscow as hubs for fostering film commissions, hosting conferences, workshops, and joint working groups to enhance strategic ties between the countries’ film industries. The signing took place on the sidelines of the Moscow International Creativity Week, held under the patronage of Alexei Fursin, Moscow’s Minister of Culture, from December 8-13, 2024, in the Russian capital. The event brought together prominent filmmakers from 11 countries.
The agreement was signed on behalf of Media Production City by Dr. Hani Abu Al-Hassan, Advisor to the Chairman of the Board for International Cooperation, delegated by Mr. Abdel Fattah El-Gebaly, Chairman and Managing Director. Moskino Film City was represented by Kosyenko Kirill Gennadievich, General Manager of the Kinopark Foundation, which oversees the management of Moskino Film City.
The Creativity Week’s programme included bilateral meetings with key representatives from Russia’s renowned cinematic institutions, such as Mosfilm and Gorky Studios.These meetings aimed to highlight capabilities, exchange expertise, and foster international collaboration in film production. Participants also received a detailed presentation on the history, significance, and opportunities offered by Media Production City, including the services provided by the Egypt Film Commission.
Moskino Film City is located 50 kilometres southwest of Moscow. Spanning 11 million square metres, it features diverse filming areas, advanced facilities, and modern production services. It was inaugurated in September 2024 by Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Mayor of Moscow. Moskino Film City is the largest of its kind, with 25% of its construction completed and full completion expected within three years.
