Emirati filmmakers share outlook at film fest

The fourth Gulf Film Festival, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Majid Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), hosted a gathering of Emirati filmmakers, who are showcasing their films at the festival.

GFF 2011 is showcasing 45 films by Emirati directors screened in four categories – Gulf Competition – Documentary and Short for film professionals; Gulf Competition – Documentary and Short for students; Lights and Intersections.

At an interactive event held at the Festival Headquarters, more than 20 directors took part, sharing their outlook for the UAE film industry, and expression their passion for filmmaking. The directors at the media briefing included: Alwiya Thani (Exhales); Maysoon Al Ali (Nations and Tribes); Rawia Abdullah (The Missing Colour); Fatima Ibrahim (Rabbit Hole); Hana Al Zarooni and Tarek Ghattas (Ghafet Osha); Ahmed Zain (Foresight and Darkness); Rashid Humaid Al Marri (Letters to Palestine); Ibrahim Almarzouqi (The Last Hope); Hassan Kiyany (Telephoni); Ahmed Al-Naqbi (Choices); Ali Al Jabri (Calendar and Consultant); Talal Mahmood (Abeer); Saud Merwesh (Soweer); Marwan Alhammadi (A Car is Just a Car); Hamad Al Hammadi (End of December); Saeed Salem Almas (Undergone); Mohammed Ghanim Al Marri (Al Seefah); and Khalid Ali Al Abdulla (11:00PM).

GFF 2011 is being held at the InterContinental Hotel, Crowne Plaza and Grand Cinemas at Dubai Festival City. The Festival includes a Gulf competition, student competition, out-of-competition segments including children’s cinema, and other special events. All the 153 films from 31 nations screened at GFF 2011 until April 20 are free for entry for the public.
