Abu Dhabi based systems integrator Tek Signals has acquired Qatar Signals, the broadcasting and systems integration arm of IT company, Middle East Data Systems (MDS), BroadcastPro ME can reveal.
The acquisition of Qatar Signals will give Tek Signals opportunities to bid for government projects that are awarded only to companies based in Qatar. It is also aimed at strengthening Tek Signals foothold in Qatar and providing better localised support to customers.
“Our primary aim is to have a local presence in Qatar and provide better support to our customers there. All of our Qatar operations will now be handled through Qatar Signals,” explained Tariq Raja, managing partner at Tek Signals.
“We presently have five full time staff at Qatar Signals and hope to expand it further based on market requirements,” he added.
Tek Signals has already enjoyed much success in Qatar.
The systems integrator was responsible for building the regions first 3G studios for Al Jazeera Sports to cover the 2010 FIF World Cup and won the much coveted Northwestern University of Qatar project last year, which is also a 3G project.
Raja attributes the companys success even during the recession to its diversified business strategy.
“We have diversified our businesses to work not just on professional broadcast projects but also in related industries like digital signage, multimedia, and telecoms. This has strengthened our operations significantly in the last few years,” he claimed.
Qatar has been under the radar of most systems integration companies especially after it successfully bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the country.
