The inaugural Cinematic Innovation Summit will be held on December 5 and 6 at the Atlantis, The Palm. The summit is being jointly hosted by Dubai International Film Festival, Centre for New Cinema and Naseba, and will feature visionaries from Hollywood, Silicon Valley and academia dedicated entirely to the future of cinema. This first-of-its kind summit is a must-attend event for filmmakers and producers, and is expected to welcome more than 200 regional and international cinematic leaders.

Co-founder of Pixar and recipient of two technical Academy Awards, Alvy Ray Smith said, I helped create the future of cinema once before. I want to be part of creating the next future of cinema. Thats why Ill be in Dubai
Award-winning actor Andy Serkis, acclaimed by critics and audiences for his work in a range of memorable roles, will be speaking about performance capture technology and the future of cinema. He noted, “I am very excited to be attending the summit, with my business partner Jonathan Cavendish. We have set up The Imaginarium at our studio in London to concentrate on Next Generation Storytelling, and we’re thrilled to meet like-minded people and discuss the future for innovation and new technologies in the world of cinema.”
DreamWorks Animations producer and the producer of The Croods Jane Hartwell took a nostalgic approach and highlighted how much the industry had evolved since she started at DreamWorks, From my beginnings at DreamWorks on Antz and Shrek until now on The Croods, the evolution of what’s possible to produce in computer animation has dramatically changed our abilities to push the boundaries as storytellers and artists. I look forward to sharing our processes and discovering new ones in Dubai.”
Known for his HDRI and Image-Based Lighting techniques utilised in films such as The Matrix sequels, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Terminator: Salvation, District 9, and Avatar; and a shared recipient of the Scientific and Engineering Academy Award® Paul Debevec will highlight how technology will revolutionise human interaction with movies. Explaining the importance of sharing experiences, he said Tomorrows filmmakers will tell stories set in any time and place working with teams across the world. The former Chairman of Universal Pictures and the current CEO of Lava Bear Films, David Linde, is no stranger to commercially successful films. He emphasised on providing the best experience to the movie-goers by saying As the quality of films continues to progress, we, as filmmakers, must find every way to deliver our best to audiences worldwide who deserve the best cinematic experience when they go to the theater. The summit provides a platform to gather and share ideas that will allow us to continue the evolution of film production. David will lead discussions on evolution of film financing and bridging the gap between east and west.
Other speakers at the summit include renowned actor Stephen Lang, motion picture producer Walter Parkes (films produced or executive produced by him include: Gladiator, Minority Report, the Men In Black series, Catch Me If You Can and The Mask of Zorro), CEO of Reliance Entertainment Sanjeev Lamba and The Weinstein Companys Chief Operating Officer, David Glasser.
Dubai Film and TV commission are the Government Partner for the summit. For high level technical requirements of the summit, Barco, the Visual Technology Partner is providing its DP4K-32B projector through which the latest in visual content including 4K high frame rate 3D will be showcased on the main vibrant screen for the summit. The fitting and installation of the screen is undertaken by Showtex, as a supporting partner. Other supporting partners include Barajoun Entertainment, DEZ Chennai Reallify Properties Private Limited, MK-V Omega Ltd, db Studios, York University and Naru Capital.
Encouragement and support has come from all parts of the world including industry bodies like Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and global associations such as Screen Producers Australia, The Film & TV Producers Guild of India, European Federation of Cinematographers (IMAGO), Visual Effects Society (USA), International Cinema Technology Association and Giant Screen Cinema Association.
The summit programme will start at 9 am on both the days, with numerous panel discussions, keynotes and demos happening throughout the day. Registration for both days starts at 8 am and is strictly by accredited attendance only.
