The deadline for submitting bids for the FIFA World Cup 26 and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 is 11:00 CET on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
FIFA has officially opened two separate tender processes for the media rights to the FIFA World Cup 26 and FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in sub-Saharan Africa. As the qualifying rounds for the FIFA World Cup 26 kick off in Africa, entities in sub-Saharan Africa are invited to submit their proposals to secure the media rights for the tournament set to be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the USA. The upcoming edition of the FIFA World Cup will feature a new format with a record 104 matches and double the number of knockout stage matches.
With the tournament expanding to include a record 48 nations in 2026, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will have a guaranteed nine representatives at the next FIFA World Cup. There is also a possibility of a 10th African side securing a place through the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff tournament.
The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 witnessed historic achievements for African teams, with Morocco reaching the semi-finals, Senegal advancing to the round of 16, and Cameroon, Ghana, and Tunisia each securing group-stage wins.
Additionally, interested parties are encouraged to submit proposals for broadcasting the 10th edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027. The host(s) for the FIFA World Cup 2027 will be decided on May 17, 2024, during the FIFA Congress.
In this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, African teams made significant strides, with three out of four representatives advancing to the knockout phase, and all four recording a win for the first time in history. As the tournament expands to include 32 teams in the group stage from 2023 onwards, African nations are expected to maintain strong representation at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Entities interested in participating in either or both of the tender processes can request invitations to tender (ITTs) by emailing SubSaharaMediaRights@fifa.org. The bid submission deadline for both cases is 11:00 CET on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
