Film AlUla's presence at Cannes underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to fostering a vibrant film industry and showcasing the nation's rich cultural heritage on the global stage.
Film AlUla, the film agency of the Royal Commission for AlUla, has confirmed its participation at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, slated to take place from May 14 to 25, 2024.
On May 17, Film AlUla will have a Cocktail Event: A celebration of Norah. The spotlight will shine on Norah, the first Saudi film selected to make its international debut at Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. Set against the backdrop of AlUla, Norah holds the distinction of being the first Saudi movie filmed entirely in the emerging destination. Director Tawfik al-Zaidi, along with rising Saudi talent Maria Bahrawi and actor Yaqoub al-Farhan, will grace the occasion, celebrating this historic milestone for Saudi cinema.
Film AlUla Executive Director Charlene Deleon-Jones and Stampede CEO Greg Silverman will take centre stage on May 18 at a Variety panel session on global locations, engaging in a dialogue moderated by Variety’s Nick Vivarelli. The two entities signed a partnership last year bringing 10 movies to the Kingdom.
On May 20, AlUla Creates, a platform nurturing emerging talent, will present a showcase featuring the works of Hana Alfasi, Maram Taibah, and sisters Raneem and Dana Almohandes. Their short films, including Malika, Bygones, and Mosquito, will be highlighted during the session, hosted by AlUla Creates mentors James Richardson of Vertigo Films and Charlene Deleon-Jones.
