Gasmelbari is a young Sudanese filmmaker who is known for his award-winning documentary Talking About Trees.
As part of the Arab Cinema Center’s (ACC) weekly series of ACC Talks, Egyptian film critic Essam Zakaria will interview Sudanese director Suhaib Gasmelbari after the latter won the Best Documentary within the Critics Awards for Arab Films. To be streamed live on Instagram, the interview will take place on Thursday, July 2, at 10 pm (UAE).
Suhaib Gasmelbari is a young Sudanese filmmaker who garnered international attention with his award-winning documentary Talking About Trees. The film landed world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), where it received Best Documentary award and the Panorama Audience Award.
The film went on to receive several international awards including; El Gouna Golden Star for Best Documentary at El Gouna Film Festival, Tanit d’Or for Best Documentary at the Carthage Film Festival, the Best Documentary at Palm Springs International Film Festival, and the Best Documentary award at the Critics Awards for Arab Films, by the Arab Cinema Center (ACC).
Essam Zakaria is an Egyptian film critic, journalist and researcher who has written for several Arabic publications and is the author of ten books about Egyptian and foreign cinema.
The ACC Talks is a series of live weekly interviews where a jury member from The Critics Awards for Arab Films and Arab Critics’ Awards for European Films host interviews international filmmakers.
