In its 11th edition, the Cairo International Womens Film Festival (CIWFF) from March 3-7 will be screening 54 films from 34 different countries including feature, documentaries and animated films, all executed by female filmmakers.
The festival opened with the Algerian Film Until the End of Time. The screenings are being held at Zawya Cinema, The Goethe Institute, The French Cultural Institute, and the Creativity Center.
Lebanon has been selected by the festival as the country in focus this year.
Also having kicked off on March 3 and lasting until March 9, is the second edition of Sharm El-Sheikhs Arab and European Film Festival.
Organised by the Noon Foundation for Arts and Culture, veteran actress Leila Elwy has been selected as the festivals honorary president, in recognition of her illustrious cinematic career.
This year, the festival has chosen to honour one of Egypts esteemed directors Ali Badrakhan, in addition to legendary actress Leila Taher and actor Hassan Hosny.
One of the festivals highlights is a competition in which 42 films from all around the world will compete in different categories, including feature-length narratives, documentaries, short films, and animated films.
