With workshops like these, Advanced Media aims to demonstrate its commitment to providing industry professionals with opportunities to enhance their skills and stay updated with the latest advancements in media technology.
Advanced Media, a provider of media solutions, hosted an exclusive “Baselight colour workshop” in collaboration with Filmlight, a developer of high-end colour grading systems. The workshop, held on May 29 and 30 at Advanced Media’s premises on Sheikh Zayed Road, was designed exclusively for experienced colourists on any grading systems.
The free-to-attend workshop aimed to enhance the fluency of attendees on Baselight, a colour grading system, and further their expertise in post-production. Participants, including editors, colourists, digital imaging technicians, and directors of photography, were given the opportunity to explore the new tools and features introduced in Baselight 6.0, along with the underlying concepts behind them.
Conducted by Patrick Morgan, Product Specialist at FilmLight in London, the workshop offered insights from an industry veteran with over 20 years of post-production experience. Patrick, who leads the Quality Control team at FilmLight, collaborates closely with Baselight customers to incorporate their requirements into product features.
Mark “Hobz” Hobson, a cinematographer and ACS Member, who attended the workshop, praised the training course as an invaluable experience for advanced colourists. He highlighted the X-grade tool in the new free version “Baselight Look,” emphasising its excellence in intricate colour adjustments and colour data management. X-grade enables users to visualise colour data movement, providing precise control over each colour channel and ensuring seamless integration of corrections while protecting data integrity.
Filmlight’s Baselight is globally recognised for its innovative tools and superior image quality. The comprehensive suite of tools offered by Baselight caters to studios and colourists worldwide, including those in the Middle East. Unique features such as X-Grade and Chromogen ML Face tracker empower users to unleash their creativity while maintaining a non-destructive workflow, ensuring flexibility throughout the post-production process.
Patrick Morgan said: “It was great being back in Dubai – the team and facilities at AMT were outstanding. Meeting local colourists and DP’s and introducing them to the unique and innovative features of the Baselight colour tools was great fun and I look forward to another visit.”
Kaveh Farnam, Advanced Media’s co-founder and CEO, added: “It is my belief that workflow is far more important in digital cinema than the kind of camera or lens being used, so we are excited to bring this workshop to Dubai and give people the opportunity to learn more about an important and influential brand such as FilmLight in action.”
