Jeddahs first cinema theatre will open at Red Sea Mall on Monday, 28 Jan, 2019, Hamza Al-Ghobaishi, Director of the General Commission for Audiovisual Media in the Makkah region disclosed during a reception with Prince Badr Bin Sultan, Deputy Emir of Makkah, according to a report in Saudi Gazette.
Jeddah is expected to have more than 100 cinema screens, of which three will open in 2019. Two theaters are also scheduled to open in Q2 of 2020.
The new theatre is part of a 12-screen multiplex planned by Majid Al Futtaim at Red Sea Mall. VOX Cinemas had announced in July 2018 that it would invest $0.53 billion (SR2 billion) in Saudi Arabia and open 600 screens in the Kingdom over the next five years.
Andalus Mall will have 27 screens and Stars Avenue will see the opening of nine screens in Q4 of 2019.
Al-Ghobaishi also unveiled plans to open 11 screens in Obhur Mall and six screens in Al-Masarah Mall in Q2 of 2020, the report added.
Saudi Arabias first movie theaters opened in Riyadh in April 2018 as part of Vision 2030.
