MIPCOM organisers announced earlier this month that the 2020 edition will take place both on-site and as a virtual event.
Production and distribution company Freemantle and ITV Studios (ITVS) have joined BBC Studios in a move to pull out of MIPCOM 2020’s on-site event in October. The companies will only take part in the virtual edition of the market, while ITV Studios will host its own digital event in September.
In a statement, Freemantle said the company is “looking forward to showcasing our incredible slate through an enhanced digital experience”. Details have not yet been revealed.
It comes after MIPCOM organisers Reed MIDEM announced that the 2020 editions of MIPCOM and the MIPJunior will take place as both a physical gathering in Cannes and as a hybrid digital gathering online.
Reed MIDEM said: “We understand and respect ITV Studios’ approach in the face of Covid-19 and we look forward to welcoming them back to Cannes next year. We are in conversation with Fremantle about their presence on MIPCOM Online+.”
MIPCOM 2020 will take place between October 12 and 15 and will be preceded by MipJunior on October 10 and 11.
