The Israeli Narrative and Documentary Features jury will be presided over by Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo.
Jerusalem Film Festival has appointed French filmmaker and screenwriter Claire Denis to lead the international competition jury for its 40th edition, which is scheduled to take place from July 13-23, 2023.
Denis’ feature debut Chocolat (1988) premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Other acclaimed works include Trouble Every Day (2001), 35 Shots of Rum (2008), White Material (2009), High Life (2018) and Both Sides of the Blade (2022), the last of which won her the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival.
Her work has dealt with themes of colonial and post-colonial West Africa, as well as issues in modern France.
Denis will be joined by American writer Whit Stillman, French filmmaker and playwright Florian Zeller and CEO of Sundance Institute Maria Schrader.
Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo will preside over the Israeli Narrative and Documentary Features jury. He has directed 18 short and feature films between 1998 and 2020. His film Johanna was screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2005 Cannes Film Festival.
Other jury members include Bosnian film director Jasmila Žbanić, Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar, and Romanian director Alexandru Belc.
Israeli director Guy Nattiv’s Golda is set to open the 40th edition of the Jerusalem Film Festival. The festival will close on July 23 with the French thriller ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, directed by Justine Triet.
The opening screening will be held at the Sultan’s Pool Amphitheater with an audience of about six thousand in attendance.
