The sixth edition of the Gulf Film Festival will open with the screening of Wadjda on April 11, 2013. Wadjda is the first feature film to be shot entirely in Saudi Arabia by the countrys first female filmmaker Haifaa Al Mansour. The award-winning film has firm roots with GFF as the script for the film was conceptualised on the festival circuit during GFF 2008. It was supported by Enjaaz in post production and was sent to several international awards screenings by GFF.
The film has been shown in 12 countries and was among the three most watched films in France. The film has won critical acclaim and has been an audience favourite in festivals around the world, winning three awards at the prestigious Venice Film Festival as well as the Muhr Arab feature award and Best Actress Award for the films young protagonist at DIFF 2012.
Gulf Film Festival 2013 will host 78 world premieres, 15 international premieres and 42 Middle Eastern premieres.
