According to the report, satellite TV revenues are expected to drop by $12bn, with digital cable down by $13bn.
Global pay TV revenues will fall to $125bn in 2028 from $151 billion recorded in 2022, according to the latest report by Digital TV Research.
This comes despite the number of pay-TV subscribers remaining at just under 1bn.
The report stated that global pay-TV revenues peaked in 2016 at $199bn.
Pay-TV revenues will fall by $26bn between 2022 and 2028. Satellite TV revenues will drop by $12bn, with digital cable down by $13bn. Analog cable will lose a further $1bn. IPTV will be flat. Revenues will decline in 71 of the 138 countries between 2022 and 2028.
Commenting on the findings of the report, Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “US pay TV revenues peaked at $101bn in 2011. Its total will drop from $6bn in 2022 to $46bn in 2028. The US will still account for 37% of global revenues by 2028, which is down from 43% in 2022.”
