Google Play Movies is now available in Angola, Benin, Botswana, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Mali, Malta, Mauritius, Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
On the service, viewers can rent or download movies from a range of thousands available.
Several Hollywood blockbusters are among the films available although TV shows are not yet part of the service in Africa. Google Play Movies hosting popular movies and TV shows is presently available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK and the US.
The move comes two months after the regional launch of music streaming service Google Play Music, and a month after the arrival of subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) giant Netflix in the African market.
