The event, spearheaded by Dubai Culture, seeks to advance the local film industry.
Hala Badri, Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), attended the fourth edition of the Al Marmoom: Film in the Desert Festival, held at the Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve. Organised by Dubai Culture, the festival aims to promote the local film industry while providing a platform for both seasoned and emerging filmmakers to share their work with audiences. This initiative aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy, highlighting Dubai Culture’s commitment to fostering local talent and skill development.
Running until January 12 under the theme ‘Where Stories Come to Life’, this year’s festival features more than 80 narrative films, complemented by live musical performances, interactive workshops and panels led by distinguished directors and cinema experts.
During her visit, Badri toured the festival grounds, viewing murals and installations by artists Ghaleb Hawila, Abdulla Lutfi and Mikhail Antykov, as well as AI-powered art exhibits. She also explored pavilions hosting workshops and activities designed for filmmakers, families and children, showcasing the event’s inclusive programming.
Badri engaged with filmmakers, directors and participants, praising the diversity of productions and their contribution to Dubai’s thriving art scene. She emphasised Dubai Culture’s mission to nurture talent, support creative innovation, and position Dubai as a global cultural hub.
The festival features performances by prominent artists such as Saif Al Ali, Alya Alshamsi, Jaber Al Maazmi, Naser Amir, Humaid Al Aleeli and Mariam Al Shamsi, offering live music that celebrates the nation’s heritage.
