The Hurghada Youth Cinema Festival has opened its doors for registration, welcoming young filmmakers to submit their entries across various categories, including long and short films, student projects, and the Green Award, recognising films advocating environmental conservation, according to a report by Scene Now.
The submission window is open from May 1 to July 15, offering aspiring filmmakers a platform to showcase their talent and creativity.
Hurghada Youth Film Festival is an annual festival organised by Funoon for Culture and Media Foundation in Hurghada, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt.
Under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Culture, supported by Egyptian and international public and private institutions, it aims to promote Egyptian cinema, cinematic culture, and support the work of young filmmakers or tackle issues related to the youth situation in Egypt and the world, as well as introducing cinematic works from various geographical regions.
In collaboration with the Higher Institute of Cinema, the festival aims to spotlight the institute’s engagement by hosting a student films competition and conducting specialised workshops for industry professionals. Scheduled to take place from September 19 to 25, 2024, the festival will feature insightful lectures by institute professors, alongside appearances by renowned Egyptian cinema stars and filmmakers.
As part of its commitment to nurturing emerging talent, the Hurghada Youth Cinema Festival will annually curate a programme dedicated to presenting graduation projects from distinguished directors who have made significant contributions to the film industry. Additionally, attendees can anticipate the premiere of a documentary film directed by Mohamed El Bassousi, paying tribute to the legendary artist Omar Sharif.
Throughout the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the creative minds of established directors through panel discussions and masterclasses following screenings. The event promises to provide invaluable insights and inspiration for both budding filmmakers and enthusiastic audiences alike.
