IBC is set to recognise outstanding achievements in technological innovation and social impact through the introduction of its prestigious IBC2024 Innovation Awards, with nominations now open. This year’s awards merge IBC’s innovation and social impact honours into a single celebration across five categories, inviting entries from all sectors of the IBC community for projects, programmes, and initiatives.
The expanded IBC Innovation Awards spotlight collaborative endeavours in developing solutions to real-world technical challenges and addressing social and environmental concerns. Winners will be unveiled at a unified ceremony during the show, slated for September 13-16 at the RAI, Amsterdam. The five categories encompass Content Creation, Content Distribution, Content Everywhere, Social Impact, and Environment & Sustainability.
Fergal Ringrose, Chair of the Judges for the IBC Innovation Awards, said: “The IBC Innovation Awards are an IBC keystone, recognising industry innovations of all types – enabling our community to celebrate together those critical breakthroughs we have made during the past year. This year’s awards reflect the many ways in which industry pioneers are redefining media – whether through technological or social advances. The expanded awards exemplify IBC efforts to lead innovation, highlighting the spirit of cooperation and creative accomplishments that positively impact the businesses involved and the industry overall.”
The awards feature three established technical categories acknowledging completed projects overcoming real-world challenges in the media and entertainment sector. Additionally, two new categories recognise initiatives fostering social advancement, equality, and environmental responsibility within the industry.
Recipients of the 2023 IBC Innovation Awards included The BBC for pioneering 5G technology in live broadcast contributions, Sky Group for its cloud-native playout platform, and KAN for innovative sports broadcasting. Meanwhile, the 2023 IBC Social Impact Awards honoured initiatives by RTVE, SWI swissinfo.ch, and Iron Mountain Data Centers.
With nominations closing on May 31, 2024, IBC encourages individuals involved in innovative projects or initiatives driving social and environmental responsibility to submit entries. The winners’ ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 15, at the RAI, Amsterdam.
