IBC has announced its call for Technical Papers for the IBC2025 Conference, scheduled to take place from September 12-15, 2025. This programme invites technologists and innovators from across the media, entertainment and technology industries to present their groundbreaking ideas and research to an audience eager for the latest technological advancements and applications.
The Technical Papers Programme is open to contributors from all disciplines within the broadcast, communications and electronic media sectors. Whether participants are researchers, professionals, professors or part of R&D teams from global brands or independent ventures, IBC encourages submissions showcasing innovative concepts, unique insights and practical applications.
Dr Paul Entwistle, Chair of IBC’s Technical Papers Committee, said: “Unsurprisingly, AI was our most popular Technical Papers session at IBC2024 – where we covered facial recognition, machine-learning in news and the iterative use of generative AI for targeted advertising. This was closely followed by our session on streaming – where the audience learnt how cricket was concurrently streamed to 59m viewers in India. We also presented strong sessions covering XR including neural radiance fields, provenance and trust, 5G both technical advances and field trials, advances in video-coding, and sustainability. All a reminder of the breadth of technologies impacting our industry.”
Technical papers from IBC2024 are available on IBC365, with top entries featured in The Best of IET and IBC 2024, a joint publication with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
At this stage, IBC invites a 300-word synopsis summarising the proposed paper’s key topic. Submissions should highlight what makes the research unique and novel while providing context and evidence of its relevance.
Entwistle noted: “Technical disclosures can also include new analytical insight into the cultural, social and environmental impact of our industry – for instance, as AI continues to impress, its impact on human creativity, intellectual rights and jobs is less clear. IBC sincerely appreciates the support the industry shows the Technical Papers Programme and looks forward to showcasing authors whose work sits at the cutting-edge, challenges the norm, or shares useful and practical insight.”
All entries undergo rigorous review by a panel of industry experts. Selected papers will be presented at the IBC2025 Conference, where authors compete for the coveted Best Conference Paper Award, to be presented at the IBC2025 Awards.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, February 7, 2025.
