The 90-minute feature film was filmed entirely in Siwa and includes a cast of prominent Egyptian stars.
Egyptian cinemas has released Italian director Ilaria Borrelli’s feature film The Goat on September 18. Since its debut at the Rome Film Festival, followed by a standing ovation at the sixth El Gouna Film Festival, the film has received praise from international journalists and critics.
The film has also achieved notable success at film festivals, winning awards for Best Cinematographer and Best Actress at the Tokyo International Cinema Awards 2024, as well as Best Cinematographer and Best Youth Actress at the Boston Indie Film Festival 2024.
This 90-minute desert adventure, shot entirely in the Siwa Oasis, tackles a rarely explored theme in Arab cinema. It follows Hadya, a pregnant orphan who embarks on a dangerous journey through the desert with her loyal animal companion in search of her missing father. Her quest is driven by her need to escape from a ruthless Western corporation intent on exploiting her village’s sole water source.
A collaborative project between Egypt, France, Italy, Lebanon and the US, The Goat is produced by Agora Media Production (Egypt), Domedo Productions (France), Orange Media and Oscar Generale (Italy), Cedars Art Production (Lebanon) and Pantheon Entertainment (US), with support from Italy’s Ministry of Culture.
The film features a distinguished cast, including international stars Mira Sorvino and John Savage, along with prominent Egyptian actors Amr Saad, Sayed Ragab, Nelly Karim, Jessica Hossam and Fathy Abdel Wahab.
