The adaptation is directed by Iraqi Dubai-based director Yasir Al Yasiri, who also takes a producer credit under his Axx Productions banner.
Image Nation Abu Dhabi, MBC Studios and Vox Studios have released the official trailer for the upcoming fantasy romance feature HWJN, which will hit screens across the region in 2023. An official release date has yet to be announced.
The film is the adaptation of the Ibraheem Abbas’ fantasy romance novel HWJN, which was first released in 2013 by Yatakhayloon and became a number one best-selling novel in Saudi Arabia.

Directed by Yasir Al Yasiri (Kaboos), HWJN features a superstar cast including Saudi actors Baraa Alem (The Sun of Gnosis), Nour Alkhadra (The Matchmaker), Nayef Althifery (Rashash), Alanoud Saud (Blackmail Note) and Mohsen Mansour (207). The film is also produced by Axx Productions by Yasir Al Yasiri.
The story is a mix of fantasy and romance and centres on the kind-hearted jinn HWJN. Living among humans in modern-day Jeddah, HWJN’s story unfolds as he embarks on an epic journey to reclaim his birthright, battling ancient evils to uphold the balance between his world and ours while developing an unexpected connection with Sawsan, a young medical student.
HWJN is one of the biggest projects to date under a landmark production partnership launched in 2019 by Image Nation Abu Dhabi, MBC Studios, and Vox Studios, three of the region’s most significant entities in the content and entertainment sector. The ground-breaking alliance looks to support several film and TV projects per year from inception to distribution, representing a significant boost to the region’s growing film, TV and entertainment industry.
An exclusive first look at the film was revealed at the Red Sea International Film Festival during a panel in which Al Yasiri, alongside Yasser Bahjatt, CEO and co-founder of Yatakhayaloon, discussed the journey of bringing this beloved fantasy romance novel to the big screen.
