Babeleye has collaborated with EasyBroadcast to manage Intelsat’s Electronic Programme Guide in Africa and feed it with images-rich multi-lingual metadata.
Satellite operator Intelsat has selected Babeleye, a global player in content metadata for video platforms, as the supplier of metadata to power VideoNow in Africa.
VideoNow by Intelsat, in conjunction with EasyBroadcast, is a service for viewers looking for free-to-air (FTA) content on direct-to-home (DTH) platforms. Through VideoNow, viewers are able to find and discover new content specific to their interests, highlighting available channels as well as their programming lineup. The service has been previously launched in America on Intelsat’s Galaxy 19, and now has been extended to sub-Saharan Africa via Intelsat 20: a multicultural and ethnic-content neighbourhood.
One of the main challenges Babeleye overcame, through its proactive presence in Africa, was to bring the many stakeholders and broadcasters from the vast continent to adhere to a unified process and an efficient workflow for raw information aggregation.
Commenting on the deal, Lasse Schmidt, Sales Director at Babeleye, said: “As we are committed to the African market, we are very excited that Intelsat is using Babeleye to fully manage the metadata lifecycle on its VideoNow app and website. In a market with such peculiarities, creating and uniforming the metadata is key to a successful user experience.”
