The channel will be accessible on all screens, in particular on the TNT package.
France Télévisions group has launched Culturebox, an ephemeral television channel dedicated to culture, performing arts and artists. With theatres, music venues and cinemas all closed for months due to Covid-19 restrictions, Culturebox will offer direct and free access to culture on a daily basis.
The idea is a temporary 24-hour channel consecrated to maintaining the link between artists and their public.
Speaking about the Culturebox, Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President of France Télévisions, said: “It is an honour and a great pride to see the public audiovisual sector today alongside artists, theatres, festivals, to offer them what they undoubtedly lack the most: the link with their audiences.”
Supported by the ministry of culture, it has a budget of €5 million. It will draw on a library of some 500 shows and a supplement of 24 new recordings.
Minister of Culture, Roselyne Bachelot added: “Nothing can replace the experience and emotion of attending, in a performance hall, the performance of an artist or a troupe. While waiting to rediscover this happiness, this very diversified offer will be invaluable to us and will undoubtedly help to give the taste and the desire to go and see, as soon as possible, our artists perform on stage.”
Each week, a new show, as well as daily meetings with actors from the world of culture, will be offered. The channel will be accessible on all screens, in particular on the TNT package until the reopening of all places of culture.
