IIFMA urges the global art and cinema community to visit their joint booth and sign a solidarity banner for independent Iranian filmmakers and freedom advocates.
In commemoration of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, the Iranian Independent Filmmakers Association (IIFMA) will participate in a flash mob at the 81st Venice Film Festival. This event, organised in partnership with The Democratic Association of Iranians-Venice, will take place on September 5, 2024, from 2 pm to 6:30 pm at the Lido di Venezia Lungomare Marconi, near the festival entrance.
The flash mob aims to bring global attention to the dire circumstances faced by Iranian filmmakers and artists who continue to suffer under oppressive conditions. Over the past year, Iranian cinema has been marred by the murders of five filmmakers, unjust imprisonments, work and travel bans and other severe punishments handed down by kangaroo courts targeting the artistic community. These actions underscore the regime’s persistent fear of freedom of expression.
IIFMA is calling for an end to the oppression in Iran and demanding the release of all political prisoners and the abolition of the death penalty. Filmmakers, artists and prominent figures are invited to join the event in a show of solidarity.
Additionally, IIFMA urges the global art and cinema community to visit their joint booth with “The Democratic Association of Iranians-Venice” during the festival and sign a banner in support of independent Iranian filmmakers and advocates for freedom.
