IIFMA has arranged two film screening sessions to offer support to independent and emerging filmmakers during the Film Market 2024.
The Iranian Independent Filmmakers Association (IIFMA) has announced its participation in the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival, slated to run from May 14-21, 2024.
IIFMA’s presence at the Marché du Film 2024 will provide Iranian filmmakers with an avenue to network with industry insiders, distributors, and fellow creatives. The association plans to host various events, including film screenings and networking sessions, fostering collaboration and celebrating the art of independent filmmaking.
Mahshid Zamani, a film critic and board member of IIFMA, said: “We are honoured to grace the Cannes Film Festival for the second consecutive year, contributing to the vibrant independent film community. Through our array of events at the Cannes Film Market, IIFMA aims to provide a platform for Iranian filmmakers to showcase their talents, forge connections with industry luminaries, and garner international acclaim. We eagerly anticipate supporting and promoting independent filmmakers from across the globe.”
In addition to operating a stand and hosting a happy hour, IIFMA has curated two film screening sessions to champion independent and emerging talents during the Film Market 2024.
Among the highlighted screenings is Dead of Night, the debut feature film by accomplished production designer Farhad Vilkiji. This film delves into the financial and emotional turmoil experienced by an Iranian intellectual who opposes the regime, compelling him to relocate to a remote area to craft his latest novel.
Furthermore, IIFMA will spotlight three short films that echo the resonance of the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement within Iranian independent cinema.
