The project will receive $22,000 in development funding to bring the idea to the small screen.
An Israeli project titled That Hole emerged victorious, clinching this year’s SeriesMakers award presented by Series Mania‘s Forum industry section.
The winning pitch, crafted by creators Orit Fouks Rotem, Adi Goral, Batya Deil, and Miri Milstein, introduces a dramedy narrative centred around a bridal counsellor who ingeniously transforms an Orthodox “prayer hotline” – originally designed to strengthen women’s faith – into a platform for sexual awakening within her devout community.
The project is set to receive $22,000 in development funding, propelling its journey from concept to the small screen.
The jury praised the project for its innovative premise, commending the portrayal of a hotline within an Orthodox community serving as a catalyst for women’s empowerment and self-discovery. They highlighted the narrative, which navigates conflicts within the community while depicting the protagonist’s unwavering commitment amidst existential questions.
“We were captivated by the original concept and the portrayal of conflict within the Orthodox community, with the protagonist choosing to navigate through it while confronting existential questions,” remarked the jury. “The respectful and compassionate approach, coupled with the immersive pitch, left a lasting impression on us.”
