The programme comprises four online webinars, each lasting 90 minutes, where participants and specialists will engage in interactive Q&A sessions.
In a joint effort to address the pressing need for gender equality in media, the Italian Public Service Broadcaster, Rai – Radio Televisione Italiana, has forged a partnership with the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB). Together, they aim to launch a collaborative training programme tailored for media professionals, offering an opportunity to deepen knowledge and exchange best practices across continents.
The training programme, titled “Gender Equality – Women Empowerment,” will bring together participants primarily from African media and civil society sectors. Through a series of online webinars spanning four sessions, attendees will delve into policies, collaborative initiatives, and regulatory frameworks championed by public service broadcasters to elevate the role of women both on and off-screen.
Led by experts from Rai, alongside representatives from public service broadcasters in Spain, Great Britain, Denmark, Georgia, and Australia, as well as key media organisations like AUB, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), the programme promises insightful discussions and interactive Q&A sessions.
Simona Martorelli, Director of Rai Department of International Relations and European Affairs, underscores the urgency of gender equality, emphasising its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Martorelli affirms Rai’s commitment to fostering equal opportunities and inclusion, a sentiment echoed by AUB in their joint mission to drive positive change in the media landscape.
Through collaborative endeavours like this training programme, Rai and AUB aspire to cultivate a generation of media professionals equipped to champion gender equality, paving the way for a more inclusive and diverse media industry globally.
