Dubai’s content and service providers will now be able to move rich data around more swiftly and cost-effectively following the addition of IX Reach to the first carrier neutral internet exchange platform in the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates Internet Exchange (UAE-IX).
Internet service providers (ISPs) in the Middle East have historically had to exchange their traffic via Europe, Asia or North America, leading to high latency rates. However, the new DE-CIX-managed exchange provides a local alternative for regional traffic exchange and localise Internet content from its PoP location in Dubai’s International Media Production Zone (IMPZ).
Remote peering specialist and network connectivity solutions provider IX Reach is the latest member to connect to UAE-IX, via its hub at the Datamena-Equinix alliance data centre, and will provide customers with a global reach at wholesale prices.
“Through their global network, IX Reach will simplify international connectivity for Datamena customers and enterprises in the region” said Hatem Bamatraf, executive vice president, Enterprise, du the UAE telco which last year launched Datamena, the carrier-neutral data centre, connectivity interchange and services platform.
“We are proud that IX Reach has chosen Datamena and we look forward to supporting them in reaching their growth objectives in the Middle East,” he added.
Stephen Wilcox, founder and technical director of IX Reach, said: “IX Reach is bringing something new to Dubai and the region, with more direct access via our network to and from the Middle East at a fraction of the cost it used to be. We’ve also seen significant interest from the corporate sector being able to connect offices in Dubai to other international centres such as Frankfurt, London and New York is now a lot easier and cheaper. UAE-IX compliments our services; through the growing list of networks present we ensure that we keep regional traffic local lowering latency and lowering costs.”
