The film festival will showcase and reward local and international excellence in film. JBX 2024, running concurrently, will focus on networking, visibility, and knowledge-transfer opportunities.
The sixth edition of the Joburg Film Festival will take place from February 28, 2024, to March 01, 2024.
The annual film festival is dedicated to showcasing African films in the context of global cinema and showcases over 60 expertly curated films from around the world, including South Africa. Organised in partnership with Multichoice, the film festival has established itself as an independent platform that tells Africa’s stories and curates, showcases, and rewards local and international excellence in film.
As in previous years, the Joburg Film Festival is centred around four key pillars: the film programme, the industry programme, youth and audience development and the film society.
Introduced last year as an extension to the festival’s programme, the second edition of the JBX Content Market will also take place during the Joburg Film Festival. Designed as an industry market that focuses on the business of film and TV, 2024’s three-day market aims to bring together media and entertainment companies, producers, buyers, and distributors of content. Over 500 participants are expected to take part in the second edition of JBX.
JBX 2024 will focus heavily on networking, visibility, and knowledge-transfer opportunities. Highlights include a panel showcasing the different collaborations between public channels from Brics countries members; personalised opportunities to pitch new projects, brand extensions and partnerships; and the presence of a dedicated JBX team to help attendees identify the best potential matches, secure and license rights, and build relevant collaborations.
