Jordanian short film Tala’vision, directed by Murad Abu Eisheh has won both the jury and audience awards for ‘Best Medium-Length Film’ at 42nd Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival in Germany. The film landed its world premiere at the same festival.
In a statement, the jury said: “With Tala’vision, the director Murad Abu Eisheh has created a film of the greatest poetry. Through Philip Henze’s sensitive camera work, the audience is always at eye level with the impressive young actress Aesha Balasem and we immediately feel the childlike, innocent desire for her television. In only 28 minutes, the director creates a convincing drama in which the irrepressible longing for freedom and above all for normality lingers on for a long time.”
Tala’vision won First Steps Award and the Michael Ballhaus Prize, for ‘Best Camera Work’. The film received a grant by The Jordan Film Fund in its fourth cycle (2019). Also, it was selected by the jury of Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival to take part within Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Market.
The eight-year-old Tala lives within a war-torn reality. She finds her solace and salvation in a banned television, which turns later to a matter of life and death. Directed by Murad Abu Eisheh, Tala’vision stars Aesha Balasem, Ziad Bakri and Khalid Al Tarifi, is shot by Philip Henze and produced by Jude Kawwa. MAD Solutions handles the film’s distribution across the Arab world.
