Regional podcast network Kerning Cultures Network has launched the Masafat podcast. It’s a series of Arabic audio documentaries driven by curiosity. Exploring unfamiliar dimensions from the past or the present.
Masafat has been a collaborative effort with creatives from all around our region, said KC Network.
The series will explore questions like what’s the secret behind the popularity of mahraganat music, and why haven’t we seen women in this space yet?; what are milk banks?; why was Lydd left out of the Palestinian narrative?; and how can trees become political?.
Masafat is produced in the same cities where the stories are taking place, to bring listeners closer to the scene and allow them to live the emotions and experiences of their characters.
In the first episode, the show introduces a music genre surrounded by a lot of controversies: Mahragant music in Egypt. Why do people only listen to Mahraganat by men? Why haven’t women broken into Mahraganat yet?
Another episode takes listeners to Ramallah to introduce them to Al Quds Radio and how it contributed to the cultural and art scene in Palestine and the Arab World until the 1948 Nakba, among many other episodes.
Each episode releases every Friday in Arabic on all podcast platforms.
