The festival will open with 'Road to Boston', setting the stage for a diverse lineup that explores the multifaceted concept of freedom in various contexts.
The Korean Film Festival will be returning to Abu Dhabi for its eighth edition this July. Since the event began in 2017, screenings have only been held in Abu Dhabi, but this year Dubai will be included for the first time.
The festival kicks off at Vox Cinemas in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi, from July 4 to July 7, before moving to Vox Cinemas in Dubai Festival City Mall from July 12 to July 14.
Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the UAE and the Korean Cultural Center, this year’s festival explores the theme of ‘freedom’ through a diverse lineup of movies spanning various genres and eras.
This year’s theme of ‘freedom’ will be explored through a wide range of genres, including comedy, mystery, musical, and historical drama. Tickets are priced at Dh35 per film, and all films will be screened in Korean with English subtitles, except for the animation Pororo Movie: Dragon Castle Adventure, which will have English dubbing and Arabic subtitles.
Historical films such as Road to Boston, Noryang: Deadly Sea, and Hero will depict the Korean people’s quest for freedom, while contemporary films like Dream Palace, Love Reset, and Sleep will tackle modern societal challenges and the resilience required to overcome them. Films like Pororo Movie: Dragon Castle Adventure will entertain children, and Alienoid Part 2: The Return to the Future will take audiences on a fantastical journey.
Lee Yong-hee, Cultural Attaché of the South Korean Embassy, said: “We are thrilled to bring the Korean Film Festival to Abu Dhabi and Dubai. This event not only showcases the rich and diverse storytelling of Korean cinema but also strengthens cultural ties between [South] Korea and the UAE. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating freedom through film.”
