The 58th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), set to begin in the Czech spa town on Friday, June 28 and run until July 6, 2024, has chosen Nadim Tabet’s upcoming Lebanese ghost story, In This Darkness I See You, for its Work in Progress section.
This segment of the festival allows producers and directors from Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, and North Africa to showcase new films that are set to premiere after KVIFF. Each producer has up to 15 minutes to present their project, including film excerpts. Following a panel discussion, the festival facilitates individual meetings between interested attendees and the presenters for more detailed information about the projects.
The screenplay was co-written by Tabet, Antoine Waked and Jamal Belmahi. The cast features Ziad Jallad, Marilyne Naaman, Maya Dagher, Moe Lattouf and Hasan Douba.
Produced by Georges Schoucair and Eli Souaiby, with co-producers Antoine Waked and Arnaud Dommerc, the film is a collaboration between Lebanon’s Abbout Productions, Clandestino Films and France’s Andolfi. Egypt’s Film Clinic Indie Distribution will handle the film’s sales and release in the Middle East and North Africa, according to a report by Screen Daily.
The production received financial support from the Red Sea Film Fund, Doha Film Institute and Lebanese Film Fund, and participated in the Frontières co-production market in Montreal.
