Abu Dhabi-based filmmaker Nancy Paton and Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan will be shooting a female-centric feature Frame in Riyadh this September, as reported by the UAE’s The National.
The movie, for which the release date is yet to be revealed, will be centered around the character of an American woman who moves to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, after divorcing her husband. The woman then befriends a group of local women and through them she slowly uncovers the unique cultural traits of the ultra conservative kingdom and reality of life for women there.
Speaking to The National, Paton revealed that the film will shoot in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, with a cast and crew made up largely of Emirati and Saudi talent and predominantly women and that she intends to have the film ready in time to hit the festival circuit in 2019, with a Saudi, regional and global release to follow.
This announcement follows the lifting of a ban on public cinemas by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information after a hiatus of 35 years.
The first movie theaters are set to open in March, with plans to have more than 2,000 screens up and running by 2030.
