The festival will pay tribute to several prominent figures in African cinema, including, Khaled El Nabawy, Nour El Sherif, Magdy Ahmed Aly, Moussa Sène Absa, Akosua Busia, and Ahmed Hafiane.
The 14th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) will be held from January 9 to 15, 2025. This year’s edition will honour acclaimed Egyptian actor Khaled El Nabawy. Four of El Nabawy’s films will be screened as part of the celebration. The event is also dedicated to the late cinematic legend Nour El Sherif and also marks the centennial of the iconic Shoukry Sarhan.
Additionally, the festival will pay tribute to several prominent figures in African cinema, including Egyptian director Magdy Ahmed Aly, Senegalese filmmaker Moussa Sène Absa, Ghanaian actress and director Akosua Busia, and Tunisian actor Ahmed Hafiane.
A four-day short film screenwriting workshop is also being held by LAFF, und its Factory Initiative platform. LAFF has collaborated with Film Independent, in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, for this workshop that will be led by a U.S. filmmaker. The workshop aims to support and promote the creative expression of Egyptian filmmakers through short film projects. This workshop is open to emerging filmmakers from Egypt.
