As these two short films take center stage, MAD Solutions continues to affirm its commitment to bringing impactful stories to global audiences.
MAD Solutions’ distribution slate will be represented by two short films at the 12th edition of Cinematographic Encounters Palestine: To Film Is To Exist, taking place from November 29 to December 3 in Switzerland.
Screened in this edition are two short films, Ward Kayyal’s Hamza: Chasing the Ghost Chasing Me and Dima Hamdan’s The Bomb. Both films are scheduled to be screened together on Saturday, December 2nd, at 4:00 pm at Sputnik.
Ward Kayyal’s Palestinian drama, Hamza: Chasing the Ghost Chasing Me, narrates the story of Hamza, a middle-aged man steadfast in maintaining a routine since his release from an Israeli jail. Every day, he goes into the woods to hunt a lion that the locals don’t believe exists. Starring award-winning actor Kamel El-Basha, alongside Ruba Blal, Motaz Malhes, and Khulood Basel, the film made its world premiere at the Cairo International Film Festival. It earned the Jury Award for Best Short Film at the Amman International Film Festival and Best Director at the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival.
Meanwhile, Dima Hamdan’s The Bomb, starring Tarik Al-Saies, Rawa Darweisch, Friederike Frerichs, and Celine Meral, explores the strained relationship between Wasim and his mother. When the police mandate the evacuation of their Berlin home for one night to deal with a recently discovered World War II bomb, unresolved feelings of anger and hurt resurface. The Bomb received the Best Female Director award at the Ayodhya Film Festival and a Special Mention at the Festival del Cinema dei Diritti Umani di Napoli.
