Malmo Arab Film Festival (MAFF) has tied up with the newly-minted Southern Sweden Creatives project during Festival de Cannes in 2016. The partnership aims to strengthen relations between producers and film professionals from Skåne, Blekinge and the Arab World.
During the film festival in Cannes, a series of activities will take place where southern Swedish and Arab producers will meet, mingle and network.
One of the strongest aims when we started the Malmo Arab Film Festival was to build a bridge between the Arab world and Sweden with cinema as the tool. It makes me very proud that, through this collaboration with Film i Skåne and the Southern Sweden Creatives project, we can take a big step in this direction, and in particular, at an international platform like the Festival de Cannes said General Manager of MAFF Mouhamad Keblawi.
The project, Southern Sweden Creatives, started in January with the aim of strengthening entrepreneurs and companies in the creative industries from the region to increase their international visibility and dissemination. The project has paved the way for a variety of activities in Cannes, arranged by project partner Southern Sweden Film Commission/Film I Skåne, including those produced by the Malmö Arab Film Festival. Malmö Arab Film Festival is a unique platform for the Arab cinema and the film industry in Scandinavia, with a particular focus on promoting cooperation between southern Sweden and the Arab World. The cooperation between the parties is based on this foundation.
Malmö Arab Film Festival has developed a series of activities to bring together southern Swedish and Arab producers. Between May 13-16 activities such as, networking sessions, mingles, seminars and presentations will be conducted, with Arab partners such as Dubai Film Market, Arab Cinema Centre, Moroccan Film Centre and Festival de Rabat.
