MBC has signed a deal with set top box (STB) manufacturer Technosat, Broadcast Pro ME can reveal. According to the deal, MBC’s HD channels (when they are launched) will be available on Technosat STBs although it is not known whether the deal is exclusive.
BroadcastPro first broke the story in early February that MBC was planning to launch HD channels. The channels will carry the same programming content as MBC’s standard definition channels but in HD format for those who would like a richer viewing experience.
Initially, it was thought that the channels would perhaps be carried on a pay TV network. However, sources close to the broadcaster told BroadcastPro ME that the HD channels would also be free-to-air.
Neither Technosat nor MBC were available for comment.
