Multichoice Malawi is also extending an offer to Malawian customers, who have held an active subscription since 1 April 2023, complimentary access to its premium package for the nine days to 14 December 2023.
Multichoice Africa has officially announced the resumption of DStv services in Malawi after months of negotiations and legal battles with the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) over price adjustments. The decision comes in the wake of a recent court ruling delivered by the High Court in Lilongwe on December 1, specifically in a matter involving Multichoice Malawi and Macra.
In a statement, Multichoice Africa expressed its excitement and commitment to reinstating DStv services in Malawi, emphasising the significance of the court’s decision in resolving the dispute with Macra. As a goodwill gesture to celebrate the return of services, Multichoice Africa will provide free access to Malawian customers who have been active at least once within the current year and possess an operational DStv decoder on the premium package for a duration of nine days.
Keabetawe Modimoeng, Group Executive for Corporate Affairs and Stakeholder Management, affirmed the company’s dedication to its valued Malawian customers and reassured them that services can be accessed as before. The free access period is scheduled from December 6 to December 14, 2023, after which access will be contingent on subscription fees paid.
Multichoice Africa highlighted its commitment to diversity by maintaining a range of packages on the DStv platform, catering to different preferences. These packages include DStv Premium to DStv Kufewa, ensuring that every customer has the opportunity to access services and enjoy quality entertainment.
In August, MultiChoice increased the subscription fees for its DStv packages, prompting MACRA to secure an injunction against the tariff hike. In response, Multichoice Malawi (MCM) obtained a “stay order” to comply with the injunction.
