Labaki and Kapoor will also appear at the festival as part of the 'In Conversation' series on December 3 and 7, respectively.
Lebanese director, screenwriter, and actor Nadine Labaki and Indian actor Ranbir Kapoor will receive Variety International Vanguard Awards at the upcoming second edition of the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah.
The event’s second edition will run from Dec. 1-10 in Jeddah, on the eastern shore of the Red Sea.
Labaki will be presented with the Variety International Vanguard Filmmaker Award. She first made her mark in the film industry with her feature debut, Caramel, which premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 2007. Known for using her filmmaking platform to highlight aspects of everyday life in Lebanon, Labaki is also the first female Arab director to have been nominated for an Oscar in the category for Best Foreign Language Film for Capernaum. She will also be taking part in an ‘In Conversation’ event set to take place on Saturday, December 3 at Vox Cinemas, Red Sea Mall to discuss her inspiring career to date.
Kapoor will be presented with the Variety International Vanguard Actor Award. He rose to fame in 2007 with Saawariya by Sanjay Leela Bhansali after which he went on to star in box office hits such as Rockstar and Barfi!, earning him two consecutive Filmfare Awards for Best Actor.
Today 15 years and over 30 roles later, on the heels of the Disney blockbuster Brahmastra, Kapoor has carved out for himself a distinct identity as a performer that can entertain audiences across a diverse set of roles. He will be taking part in an ‘In Conversation’ event on Wednesday, December 7, at Vox Cinemas, Red Sea Mall to discuss his career in cinema so far.
Speaking about the honorees, Mohammed Al Turki, CEO of RedSeaIFF, said: “Nadine Labaki and Ranbir Kapoor are two remarkable talents in the film industry. We are honoured to be partnering with Variety to recognise their huge talent and contribution to the industry, and to be hosting In Conversation events with each of them to hear about their past success and hopes for the future. Each a unique storyteller, we look forward to welcoming them to Jeddah.”
