The series has also been acquired by AMC Networks International for Portugal and Spain, CBC for Canada, and SBS for Australia, with deals finalised in an additional 19 territories.
Netflix has acquired Israel’s highest-rating drama of 2023, titled A Body That Works (aka Goof Shlishi).
Produced by Kuma Studios, the series delves into the story of a childless couple seeking the assistance of a surrogate, exploring themes of fertility, family dynamics, and women’s bodily autonomy.
Netflix has secured streaming rights across Europe, Latin America, and the US, with non-exclusive rights in Israel. Additionally, AMC Networks International has acquired rights for its channels SundanceTV and AMC in Portugal and Spain, respectively.
CBC holds streaming rights for the Canadian audience through its CBC Gem platform, with Keshet International (KI) reporting completed deals in 19 other territories.
Starring Rotem Sela and Yehuda Levi, the series premiered on Keshet 12 last year. Co-created by writers Shira Hadad and Dror Mishani, alongside director Shay Capon, the eight-episode show garnered a consolidated rating of 22.5% TVR last year.
Kelly Wright, KI’s MD of distribution, described the series as a “captivating journey to parenthood” that gripped audiences across Israel.
A remake of the series is in development for the UK and global markets by Keshet UK, with format options also secured in multiple territories, according to KI.
These acquisitions precede the upcoming London Screenings, during which KI will showcase other notable titles including Spiro Films’ romantic drama The Best Worst Thing and Shenhar Productions’ thriller Trust No One, which recently found a home on Netflix.
