Most recently, Gaspin served as president of Gaspin Media, the production and consulting company the executive also founded.
Netflix has appointed Jeff Gaspin, former chief of NBC Universal Television Entertainment, to its executive team. Gaspin will serve as the Vice President of Unscripted Series at the streaming service, tasked with curating and expanding Netflix’s portfolio of reality programming. His appointment comes shortly after the departure of Jenn Levy, who previously oversaw unscripted series at Netflix. Gaspin will report to Brandon Riegg, Vice President of Nonfiction Series.
In a statement, Gaspin said: “I feel a bit like Al Pacino in The Godfather Part III: Just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in. I’m so thrilled to join Brandon and the unscripted team at Netflix. I was always most successful and happiest when I built or ran unscripted at VH1, Bravo and NBCU. I can’t wait to do the same at Netflix.”
Gaspin also highlighted his previous collaborations with Netflix as a producer through his company, Gaspin Media, on projects like Rhythm & Flow and The Tinder Swindler.
Riegg welcomed Gaspin to the team, praising his vast experience and talent in the unscripted television realm. He expressed eagerness to continue working with Gaspin, citing their previous collaborations on successful Netflix projects. Gaspin’s extensive background includes serving as Chairman of NBC Universal Television Entertainment from 2009 to 2011, overseeing iconic shows like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and Project Runway during his tenure as President of Bravo. He also played a significant role at VH1, where he created the popular series Behind the Music.
Gaspin’s appointment signals Netflix’s ongoing commitment to diversifying its content offerings and expanding its presence in the unscripted genre. With Gaspin’s expertise and track record of success, Netflix aims to further solidify its position as a leader in the streaming industry.
