Applications are open until August 10 for Saudi women aged 21 and above.
Netflix, in collaboration with Sard and Neom Media Industries, has announced the Saudi Female Future Filmmakers Programme, targeting 15 emerging female filmmakers from Saudi Arabia. Part of Netflix’s Fund for Creative Equity, this initiative seeks to nurture the next wave of female talent in the Saudi film industry.
The programme is divided into two phases. The first phase, beginning in September, includes a 10-day virtual introductory course focused on writing, directing, and producing. In the second phase, participants will enter a ten-week online advanced writing programme, working with mentors to develop short scripts. These scripts will then be pitched to a panel of experts during a simulation exercise at the Red Sea International Film Festival. Additionally, participants will have access to the festival, workshops, panel discussions, and networking events.
Applications open on July 24 and close on August 10, for Saudi women aged 21 and over with no prior film and TV industry experience. An external jury will review the applications, and selected candidates will be notified in late August.
Netflix’s ‘Because She Created’ initiatives continue to amplify women’s stories and support Arab women filmmakers. Previously, Netflix partnered with Sard to launch the ‘Because She Created’ writing program in Egypt, aimed at training women in scriptwriting and storytelling.
