The film stars British-Kenyan actor, Charles Mmene and Hollywood star Hakeem Kae-Kazim.
Netflix is set to release South African film Riding With Sugar on November 27 on its streaming platform. Seventeen years in the making, the film is written and directed by Cannes Lions Gold Winner, Sunu Gonera.
The film centres on Joshua, a refugee who dreams of winning a cycling championship to find a better life, but an accident shatters his dreams. He is given shelter and a job by Mambo who houses refugee teenagers from all over Africa.
When Joshua meets Olivia, a dancer from a well-off family, it brings him into a world he has never known before, but her insights cast a shadow over Mambo’s agenda.
Gonera has also directed the 2007 film Pride and episodes of 13 Reasons Why, Snowfall and Madam Secretary.
