21st Century Fox-owned Indian sports network has appointed Gautam Thakar as CEO of Star Sports who will have to deliver on the upcoming Indian Premier League among other events.
Star India is aiming to reach 700 million viewers, an increase of 150 million viewers from last year’s figures with its coverage of next seasons lndian Premier League (IPL) T20 cricket competition. In September 2017, Star won the global TV and digital rights for the IPL over the next five years, in a deal worth $2.55 million to the BCCI.

Thakar reportedly brings more than 20 years of experience, most recently leading LivingSocial (acquired by Groupon). Previously, he spent ten years at eBay in a range of leadership roles.
Thaker has an MBA from IIM, Lucknow and prior to that a Bachelors in Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai.
