Dubai will play a starring role in the UK version of The X Factor. It will be the location for Nicole Scherzinger, Pussycat Doll-turned-judge, to bring her chosen shortlisted contestants to compete for a place in the live televised heats.
It is reported that the pop star will be joined in Dubai by US soul star, Ne-Yo, who played a gig here in the Emirate earlier in 2012. He will assist Scherzinger who has landed the Boys category in choosing who will go forward to be mentored and perform live on television in London.
The other three X Factor judges this year are Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh, and they also will be taking their categories to exotic locations. This is the second time, however, that the UK television programme has chosen Dubai. Two years ago, judge and ex-pop star Dannii Minogue filmed the process and choosing of her three finalists at Atlantis on the The Palm. She was assisted by her sister and pop star, Kylie Minogue.
2012 has already seen Dubai chosen as a top location to film British television. Car and automobile entertainment programme Top Gear were here earlier this year to cover the Dubai 24 Hour Race, and the Emirate was picked for a post-Christmas fitness boot camp feature titled Downsize in Dubai, as part of the ITV breakfast show, Daybreak.
This week, it has been reported that 8.9 million viewers tuned in to watch The X Factor in the UK, which was a descent of 200,000 from the previous weeks first episode of 2012.
It is not yet revealed when the Dubai episodes will air on The X Factor, but it is rumoured to be early October. Stay in touch with Broadcast Pro as we will be bringing an update shortly.
