NPAW will introduce the NPAW Device Probe (NDP) on October 1, 2023, a tool developed by Nokia for quality assurance, integration testing, troubleshooting, and producing video solutions.
NPAW, a major player in analytics and multi-CDN solutions for online media companies, has unveiled its plans to integrate Nokia’s device probe into its portfolio of video analytics solutions, as announced at IBC 2023. This strategic integration is set to strengthen NPAW’s capability to monitor end-user devices and elevate video service quality for its customers.
Starting on October 1, 2023, NPAW will introduce the NPAW Device Probe (NDP), a cutting-edge tool originally developed by Nokia for quality assurance, integration testing, troubleshooting, and video solution production.
NDP operates within video end-user devices, continually gathering and storing data related to decoded audio and video, user interactions, network traffic, power consumption, and more. When combined with NPAW’s player-based API, NDP enhances last-mile tracking within the NPAW Suite, providing real-time insights that empower service providers to enhance the end-user experience.
NDP offers versatility in its applications, including active monitoring of connected video devices at multiple levels, from network and video to audio. Its advantage lies in its ability not only to extract data but also to actively generate relevant data, enabling the validation of content quality over live or video-on-demand platforms.
Moreover, NDP is equipped to simulate adverse network conditions, ensuring comprehensive testing of network performance. These active features, encompassing on-screen interactions, network impairments, and device commands, differentiate NDP from passive analysis tools. Unlike tools that solely collect data, NDP allows the creation of customised indicators from various sources.
NDP’s adaptability extends to different devices, including set-top boxes, mobile devices, and personal computers. By combining a hardware probe with a cloud-based software layer, NDP empowers service providers to automate processes such as quality assurance testing while extracting and analysing data in a tailored fashion.
Speaking about the deal, Víctor Carbonell, NPAW’s Chief Revenue Officer and Head of Infrastructure, said: “With NDP, we are taking a big leap forward in access network and end-device visibility. Together with our existing partners who provide probe solutions in the content generation and distribution networks, we will offer unparalleled end-to-end monitoring that will change the way service providers monitor and improve their video service quality.”
